Colouring In Sheet - Matches and Lighters

Recommended for Year 2 - Year 4 school year level.

Start by asking your children, "What are toys?" and guide their response to "Safe things we can play with." Then, ask them if they think tools are safe to play with. You can explain that tools are different because most of them can be dangerous and hurt you.

Next, introduce matches and lighters. Are they toys or tools? Help them understand that matches and lighters are tools, and like other tools, they can be dangerous. This is why children should never play with them.

If you're speaking to children around five years old or younger, explain that if they ever find matches or a lighter, they should always tell an adult and never touch them.

For older children, let them know that matches and lighters should only be used with an adult present to supervise, ensuring safety at all times.
