We send a fire truck and crew to visit you
The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) offers educational appliance visits for pre-schools, schools, higher education facilities, youth and community groups with an educational or community focus.
We are not able to provide educational appliance visits to playgroups, family day care, kindergyms, child and family care, out of school hours’ care (OSHC), vacation care or other private events and activities.
Each visit will consist of one crew, being four firefighters and a fire truck, and is free of charge. The visit includes a fire safety talk from our firefighters followed by a look at the fire truck.
To receive a visit from the MFS, the following conditions must apply.
- Educational Visits take approximately one hour and are subject to operational requirements as follows:
- Between 9.30 am and 2.00 pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.
- Application must be submitted with a minimum of five (5) weeks’ notice.
- Minimum of 15 and a maximum of 40 participants (inclusive of all adults & children).
- To cater for more participants (above maximum numbers listed above) additional bookings must be made using a separate form for each booking.
- CHILDREN MUST BE 4 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER OR AT LEAST 80% OF THE CLASS IS OVER THIS AGE.
- Where the group is primarily children under 7 years (80%), it is a requirement that there is an adult supervisory ratio of one adult per five children.
- Only one booking per group per day.
- The fire truck must stand on hard surfaces - not grassed areas or ovals.
- The crew and fire truck may be required to respond to emergencies at any time, so they must be able to exit the site quickly at all times.
- Fire trucks are not accessible for those in wheelchairs or with significant mobility issues.
- The MFS is not able to provide Educational Appliance Visits to playgroups, family day care, kindergyms, child and family care, out of school hours’ care (OSCH), vacation care or private events and activities of a commercial nature.
- Due to high demand, please submit booking requests at least five weeks in advance. Requests are processed in order of receipt.
- Ensure attendees with sensory sensitivities are prepared (e.g., with headphones).
- If your group has specific accessibility needs, please indicate these in your booking form.
- The crew may need to respond to emergencies, potentially requiring early departure or cancellation. We will assist with rebooking if this occurs.
Please feel free to call us on 8204 3611 to discuss any concerns ahead of your visit.
